March 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Criminal lawyer Patrick Roberts of the Raleigh defense firm of Roberts Law Group PLLC took a Driving While Impaired (DWI) case to trial and successfully argued in defense of his client.
Mr. Roberts, a Raleigh criminal lawyer, recently fought for his client who was stopped for suspicion of impaired driving. When the officer stopped Mr. Roberts' client, they smelled an odor of marijuana and found what they believed to be marijuana in the car. The officer gave him field sobriety tests and then arrested him for possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana possession and DWI.
While the judge found the defendant guilty on the marijuana charges, Mr. Roberts was able to successfully argue that the driver's performance on the field sobriety tests was solid and did not warrant evidence conclusion of impairment sufficient for the driver to be convicted of DWI. Based on Mr. Roberts' arguments, his client was found not guilty of the serious DWI charge.
"I believe the judge considered the performance on the field sobriety test and weighed the performance heavily in making his decision," Mr. Roberts said. "It is important for DWI attorneys to have a thorough understanding of field sobriety practices in order to be able to effectively defend their clients."
Mr. Roberts has a unique passion to defend others against serious criminal charges in throughout North Carolina. After working as a prosecutor in North Carolina for more than three years, Mr. Roberts decided to become a criminal lawyer, defending the accused throughout North Carolina. Relying on his significant experience working as a prosecutor, Mr. Roberts has demonstrated a strong record of success in fighting for the rights of his clients. Mr. Roberts has also taken the initiative to learn a great deal about field sobriety practices by taking legal education courses on the subject. Mr. Roberts is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, Ind. and a graduate of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyer's College.
