CLINTON, MD, June 04, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matthew B. Zimmerman, Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator of the Inpatient Pharmacy for Southern Maryland Hospital Center Inc. has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Pharmaceutical Services. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
With 27 years of professional experience, Matthew B. Zimmerman is best known for his skills in management of pharmaceutical services. Currently on his third year with Southern Maryland Hospital Center, he utilizes this ability to manage clinical activities and oversee inpatient pharmacy operations. His responsibilities include handling drug distribution/automation, overseeing clinical consult reports, leading resolution of medication related problems, evaluating patient adverse drug reactions, developing policies and procedures promoting safe medication management through use of evidence-based literature, best-practice protocols, and other quality improvement initiatives; overseeing the development and maintenance processes of formulary review, medication use evaluations, therapeutic/automatic drug substitution protocols, and drug information resources. In addition, Dr. Zimmerman maintains an active role with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Pathways Committee, Infection Control Committee, Critical Care Committee, Psych Committee and other multidisciplinary committees. Dr. Zimmerman leads and coordinates development of clinical projects, communicates directly with physicians, nurses, hospitalists, and other health care providers regarding patient drug therapy through patient chart reviews and analysis of assorted target drug programs. Dr. Zimmerman serves as teacher, role model, and project advisor to pharmacy students and maintains familiarity with all departmental programs and works as an integral member of the pharmacy team. Dr. Zimmerman attributes his success to hard work and persistence and hopes to in the future become a board-certified clinical pharmacist while enhancing the progression of the profession in the eyes of patients, peers, colleagues, and other key health care stakeholders while serving in the role of clinical pharmacy coordinator, manager or director.
Mr. Zimmerman received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas, his Master's Degree- Health Services Administration from The George Washington University, and his Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from Temple University. In addition, Mr. Zimmerman has enhanced his professional development through hospital pharmacy residency training, Director-In-Training, and other career/management development programs, professional organizational committee involvement, and specialized clinical training in anticoagulation, diabetes, pharmacoeconomics, and managed care. He is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Society, American Pharmaceutical Association, and various state pharmacy societies and alumni associations.
