With unparalleled expertise in the pharmaceutical industry, Elsa Gomez, MS lends more than 35 years of professional experience to Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Now celebrating her eighth year as the director of quality assurance for research and development, Ms. Gomez recalls beginning her career as an auditor for companies that provided pharmaceutical products for the United States Department of Defense. Having seen activity in all aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing and associated quality control systems, she gained the necessary experience to fulfill her present-day role. Since joining Watson Pharmaceuticals, Ms. Gomez has played a pivotal part in the growth of company, expanding the number of employees from 80 to more than 1,200.

Specialized in compliance and regulations for the development of pharmaceutical products, Ms. Gomez expertly oversees research and development activities while ensuring the use of proper manufacturing practices according to regulatory agency guidelines. In addition to assisting managers and employees in the research, development and quality assurance departments, Ms. Gomez prepares for regulatory agency inspections, as needed. She asserts that doing her job effectively requires that she listen to the point of view of others in an objective and open manner. In fact, her managerial prowess is one of the many keys to her success. Says Ms. Gomez, "I don't micromanage. I give them the assignment and leave myself open to their questions."

In recognition of professional excellence, Ms. Gomez was named "Professional of the Year" by Cambridge Who's Who for the 2009/2010 year.
