MRC's Green Initiatives Supplement a Paperless Workflow
This Earth Day, we focus attention on what each of us can do in our daily lives to help our planet. Medical Research Consultants (MRC), a med-legal support company, has assembled a team of volunteers to lead the way in workplace conservation.

HOUSTON, TX, April 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As the nation gains greater environmental awareness, workplaces are pitching in by implementing policies to help the conservation effort. Medical Research Consultants' (MRC) all-volunteer Green Team has made quick strides towards a more earth-friendly workplace, adding to the green benefits of an already "paperless" legal support operation.

The primary purpose of MRC's Green Team is to help MRC provide its employees with the opportunity to voluntarily take responsibility for improving their environment, and embrace socially responsible choices. This mission includes the implementation of resource saving practices, company initiatives, employee awareness programs, and volunteering in environmental programs throughout the city.

Accomplishments:

• Since the Green Team kick-off in 2008, MRC has successfully initiated recycling of cardboard, aluminum and plastic, and dramatically reduced the use of Styrofoam.
• Styrofoam cups were replaced with re-usable mugs manufactured from corn-based biodegradable thermoplastic. This initiative alone is estimated to eliminate 20,000 Styrofoam cups from Houston-area landfills in 2009.
• The Green Team initiated a "lights off, workstations off" policy, whereby employees are expected to fully power down all workstation equipment and turn off all work area lights prior to leaving the office.
• As MRC's policy is to shred all sensitive paper documents after scanning, the Green Team ensured that shredded documents are directed to recycling centers.
• Employees are encouraged to "think twice" before printing emails and other electronic documents

Outside of MRC's recycling and energy conservation programs, MRC's WiseFiles supports a paperless system of document management with environmentally-friendly benefits both in-house and for our clients. Whereas the traditional image of mass tort litigation involves mountains of paper documents spread across tables, filing cabinets and desks, MRC provides Fortune 500 companies and their go-to firms with a secure online document repository and database offering searchable, user-friendly access to all relevant documents and work product. After scanning and upload, all documents may be viewed online and pages printed only as necessary, eliminating the waste and expense of shipping paper copies.

MRC encourages legal teams and other businesses to take steps toward more green-friendly operations, whether through formation of their own Green Teams, or by choosing vendors who support such initiatives.
